Membership in the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department is open to individuals who live or work in or near the Fire District and wish to support the objectives of the organization. The requirements below outline eligibility, membership classifications, participation expectations, and guidelines for Junior Members.
Section 1
Any person residing or working in or near the Fire District who wishes to become a member and assist in carrying out the objectives of the organization is eligible for membership, provided they are of good moral character.
Section 2
There shall be seven classes of members: Support Firefighters, Firefighters, Retired Firefighters, Junior Firefighters, Life Members, Auxiliary Members, and Honorary Members.
Firefighters and Support Firefighters must attend, at a minimum, 50% of each of the following:
The Assistant Chief and Captain shall review each member for compliance.
Members may be excused only for employment-related issues, medical reasons, or personal reasons, and only by the Captain.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in the member being moved to probationary status for a period not to exceed one year. During the probationary period, the member may not hold office.
Any member who fails to attend any regular meeting, drill, or called work session for one year without being excused by the Captain shall automatically be dropped from the membership roll. This will occur after notification by the Secretary.
Life Members and Retired Firefighters are exempt from these requirements.
Section 5
Junior Members may participate in meetings but will not be allowed to vote. They will conform to the guidelines outlined in the Junior Guidelines Handbook.
Within 60 days after reaching the age of eighteen, Junior Members may apply to the Membership Committee to become Support Firefighters if they wish to continue as a GVFD member, as stated in Article I, Section 6.
